DIY Decoupage Pumpkin Centerpieces
Perfect for the seasonal wedding, these Modge-podged pumpkins can add a non-traditional hint of autumn to your guest tables, buffet line, or could even work as favors with mini pumpkins!
What You’ll Need :
- Assorted Pumpkins & Gourds
- Lightweight Fabric
- Sewing Scissors
- Modge Podge
- Covered work surface
Method:
1.) Measure the length of your pumpkin, from the middle of the bottom side, up to the base of the stem. This is how long your fabric strips will be.
2.) Measuring the fabric to fit, cut out thin strips. If you cut your strips any wider than ¾ an inch, they will become difficult to smooth over the rounded and bumpy surface. A great way to estimate how many strips you will need is to count the number of ridges on the surface of the pumpkin.
3.) Using one strip at a time, modge podge the desired section of the pumpkin, layer a strip on, and modge podge over the strip, sealing it in. Repeat this process around the pumpkin. The strips should cover from the bottom side of the pumpkin, up to the stem. The strips may need to slightly overlap as to not expose any of the orange—keep this in mind if you are using a fabric with large prints.
4.) When you have covered the entire pumpkin, add one more layer of modge podge, to be sure that the strips will not begin to fall off.
5.) Allow your pumpkins to dry thoroughly. And remember; don’t pick them up by the stem!
6.) Want to add an extra step? Slice the top of the pumpkin and gut it, just as if you were making a jack-o-lantern. Then, drill patterns into the pumpkins, place a candle inside, and you have a decoupage pumpkin votive! However, remember that once you gut the pumpkins, they will not last as long.
